Just after 5:30 PM C shift
was alerted for a reported "pit cover" fire in Building #
20. Engine 75 arrived and found that the pit cover, which is
used to cover the large heating pits, had malfunctioned and
fell in. An area crane was used to remove the cover from the
pit and upon doing so it was found that the pit cover was
well involved. FF/EMT Tattershall utilized 2 Class B foam
cans to knock down the fire and then a PW to cool the
effected area. Because of the heating operation a hose line
could not be used to extinguish the fire. After cleaning up
and restoring Engine 75, C shift handled a fire alarm in the
basement of building 20 as well.
